Behavior Management Strategies In China, Japan And The U.S.: What Can
We Learn?

It is tempting to assume that one's own society creates the optimal
approach for managing behavior problems This study explores preschool
teachers' beliefs regarding classroom management practices and their
goals in three communities Beijing, Tokyo and Boston. Discussion will
focus on implications for practice at home and school.

A Guide to Executive Function: Facts and Solutions

Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 7:00-8:30 pm

LOCATION: ELIOT-PEARSON, CURRICULUM LAB

Executive Function is a term used to describe a set of higher order
thinking and reasoning skills which are responsible for: Planning &
Organizing (completing and turning in assignments, juggling
schedules), Impulse Control (taking turns, interrupting others, paying
attention, running off), Cognitive Flexibility (adapting to new
situations, transitions, handling frustrations), Initiation (starting
homework, chores, and major projects), Working Memory (following
directions, note-taking, reading and retaining info), Self-monitoring
(making careless errors, staying on topic, getting into trouble but
not understanding why). This workshop will address strategies to
promote Executive Function in children struggling with this issue.

Presenter: Kalyani Krishnan, M.A., Language and Learning Specialist,

Institute for Learning and Development, Lexington, MA- Kalyani is a
Language and Learning Specialist at ILD. Kalyani specializes in
understanding the processing strengths and weaknesses of individuals
and coordinates evaluations.
